Tourism in Cullman County is poised for a significant boost on the international stage with the appointment of Harmony Heard as the new Director of Tourism. Initiated by a legislative bill in 2021 aimed at sharpening the focus on promoting local festivals, events, and sports tournaments, the Cullman County Tourism Bureau has embraced this leadership change as a pivotal step towards expanding its global appeal.
A spokesperson for the bureau expressed excitement about Heard’s capabilities: “Harmony brings a vast reservoir of tourism expertise and leadership experience, vital for our aggressive promotional goals.” Her previous roles have included key leadership positions such as President of the Huntsville/Madison County Hospitality Association and pivotal engagements with the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau.
The bureau’s efforts have already yielded substantial benefits, particularly with the success in attracting significant collegiate and professional fishing tournaments to Smith Lake, each injecting about $500,000 into the local economy. With Heard’s strategic vision, the bureau aims to not only continue these successes but also to significantly broaden Cullman County’s attractiveness as a top-tier destination in the international tourism market.
